After living in several other Colorado counties, Gillian settled in Weld County with her husband, Mike, in 2015. She has been active in Weld County politics for several years and is currently the President of the Republican Women of Weld. Additionally, she also serves on boards for the Weld County Area Agency on Aging and Happiness Through Horses, a non-profit that works with youth. Working full-time as an oil and gas accountant for the last twenty-five years, she has also both started and managed businesses in her career. Fiscal responsibility, accountability, and integrity are mainstays in both her personal and business relationships. In her free time, she spends time with her horses, enjoys gardening, and reading.
There are five main functions for the Council per the Weld County Home Rule Charter:
1) Set the salaries for elected county officials.
2) Fill vacancies as necessary for both the County Commissioners and the Council.
3) Suspension of elected officials formally charged or indicted for a crime or when a valid recall petition is presented.
4) Review conflicts of interest between county officers, appointed board members or employees and any organization or enterprise doing business with Weld County.
5) Consideration of requests from the County Commissioners to grant an increased mill levy.
County Council is a nonpartisan, unpaid elected position.
I encourage people to get involved wherever they can within their communities. My involvement in politics stemmed from frustration. Rather than be apathetic, I became involved with the Republican Women of Weld. That offered opportunities for me to hear directly from local, state and federal candidates. This increased my awareness of various issues and offered me a greater understanding of how special Weld County is. It also motivated me to go a step further and run for Weld County Council. With an accounting background, fiscal responsibility, integrity, and accountability are part of who I am. The character and skills I have developed in my personal and professional endeavors will serve the County Council well. Finally, having worked in downtown Denver for several years, I have a deep appreciation for how we live here in Weld County. I will always strive to ensure that our way of life is preserved for future generations to enjoy.
